THE FORE: Reviewing “RUN and HIDE”

January 13, 2009 by theforeband

The following review courtesy MUSICBENDER.COM:

They come from London and Liverpool, joining together to make a sound so exciting that thousands of fans throughout Britain, Europe, Canada, South America, Australia and the United States are flocking to CD Baby, Indiestore, Amazon and other outlets for this indie CD.

Run and Hide — the second album by the megapop band The Fore — is a mixture of raw, driving rock-and-roll sprinkled with some of the most beautiful ballads in the musical universe!

Where their debut album Black and White, took us to a world of pure rock excitement, this one explores that world with a musical progression tha’s gonna put your entire system into overdrive! And, through it all, you’ve still got the inimitable style that the band is famous fore!

TRACKLIST FROM RUN AND HIDE (with notes)

  • FORGIVE AND FORGET — This upbeat rocker has a vocal hook that I dare ya to try and get outta yer head!
  • WE WERE MEANT TO BE — Like your music flavored with a bit of the Motown dance sound of the early ’60s? You’ve got it, mixed with some solid, Bo Diddley-style rock in the bridge.
  • HAVE ME BACK AGAIN A solid mover with the lads’ signature harmony sprinkled liberally throughout!
  • SEND MY LOVE TO YOU — Sung by drummer Simon Thompson, this folk-rocker is already a fave among some of our servicemen overseas! Great arrangement and strong acoustic rhythm adds to the beauty of this ballad.
  • YOU’VE GOT TO CHOOSE — Sometimes, if a guy’s got a rival for his girl’s heart, he’s gotta confront her about the situation; that’s what this song’s all about. A strong piano helps build this melodic mover (and wait’ll ya hear the chorus!).
  • RUN AND HIDE — This thriller starts with a sharp attack and pointed lyrics, warning the cheating girl to run and hide. The bridge builds tremendous suspense, as does the last of the track (with Si and Matt creating a dark, chase-type backing that would sound great on a spy flick!
  • RUMOURS AND LIES — It’s every teenaged boy’s plea to his girl: Don’t listen to the rumours and lies that might “take your love away”. This slower number has a great calypso-style rhythm and lyrics that aim straight for the heart.
  • THAT’S A LIE — Imagine the ultimate rock song, with Everly-style harmony, rockabilly-style guitar, great progressive arrangement and upbeat tempo. That’s whatcha got here! (Oh, yeah … there’s a hook in the chorus that’s innovative: As Matt and Spencer sing “then I’ll put you down”, the tempo slows in sync with the words — then builds back up at the words “I’m tellin’ you now”.)
  • IT’S YOU GIRL — Merseybeat at its finest! Fantastic harmony with a great guitar bridge!
  • LAZY DAY — A breezy, summertime song with a great hook and warm, inventive vocals. Again, a strong piano only adds to a song that’s as refreshing as iced tea on a hot July day!
  • LEAVE ME ALONE — Have you ever had someone break up with you, just to find them calling or trying to get you back? That’s the premise of this song. In the chorus, you can feel Spencer confronting his ex while feeling the heartache of having to speak with her again.
  • NO OTHER LOVE — A slower, heartfelt, harmonic melody with minimal instruments and great lyrics.
  • TELL YOUR FRIEND — A throwback to the Invasion band’s Hamburg/Star Club days, this is an amazing, raw, in-your-face rocker, with the Chuck Berry 4/4 rhythm, clappers and all! And wait’ll you hear Matt’s guitar solo!
  • EMMA — It starts darkly with a quasi-flamenco beat, and when Spencer gets to the mic and starts singing to “Emma” about her leaving, you can actually feel his pain! Coupled with Si’s drum fill and Matt’s stirring acoustic 12-string, it’s one amazing song!!
  • AIN’T THAT JUST FINE — An upbeat song built strongly around the rhythm, it deals with the singer’s happy-go-lucky independence. Lyrics like, “Don’t walk like a rich man, but I got all that I need” and “I’m not the kind of guy to settle down” flavour a tune that’s great to have in yer car’s CD player as you’re hittin’ the open road!

All told, I’ve gotta give this CD an EAGLE-SIZED, five-star “thumbs up” rating! Now, I’ve been in the biz for over 30 years, and this album, while released independently, is one of the best I’ve heard in years! If I were you, I’d order “Run and Hide” today, and start rockin’ with some serious inner energy tomorrow!!

One more word: Though this album’s only been out for about a month, it’s already gettin’ some great airplay across terra firma, and CDs/tracks are selling at a fantastic rate … and it’s all due to the band, their managers, and yours truly promoting them; no A&Rs, no high-end record labels or fancy ads!

And if that doesn’t tell ya how good the CD is, nothing will!

andrew_mcculloughNatch, they’ve already struck gold with their new rhythm guitarist, Andrew McCullough,

FAB NEWS FOR CHRISTMAS!!

December 24, 2008 by theforeband

rahFIRST: THE NEW ALBUM

It’s here! The fab new CD from the greatest band since the Invasion! You’re gonna rock with Run and Hide from the first track to the last … then wanna play it over and over again! Wanna order? Check out the band’s site for more (incidentally, they sold — can you believe this? — almost 400 copies of this amazing album in just three gigs! And it’s just been released!!)

NEXT UP: THE NEWEST MEMBER!!

Take a good, long look at the pic to yer right. Now … instead of Luker (who left the band a few months ago. We all wish him well on his endeavors), there’s a fantastic new member that’s adding to the excitement found in every Fore performance!

Here’s what Spencer Hannabuss (bass player, vocals, founder) had to say (courtesy the band’s blog):

“We’re pleased to introduce to you Andrew McCulloch as our new rhythm guitarist position. Andrew has been depping for us for the past month or so, and in true Fore style has yet to have an official band practice with us!! Nevertheless he’s being doing great and we’re delighted that he has joined us. Andrew hails from Southport in Merseyside and has only just moved down to London in the past couple of months.
Not only does Andrew bring some mean attacking rhythms to the band but he can turn his hand to playing piano/organ as well as knocking out a tune on the harmonica as well.
Hopefully you’ll be able to see the new look Fore for at a gig real soon.”

…BUT THERE’S MORE!!

Recently, the band was gunning for the #1 spot on The Unsigned Charts Show with their rockin’ hit, You’ll Be Mine. And … well, again, let Spencer break the news:

“We did it! For those of you who tuned into the Unsigned Chart you’ll know that it got all rather tense when we closed in on the top spot – but we did it. Our progress on the Unsigned Chart was No. 4 (September), No. 4 (October), No. 2 (November) and No. 1 (December).

We’ll be retiring You’ll Be Mine as of next month and uploading a song from our new album ‘Run & Hide’ for January’s song vote. Thanks again for everybody’s vote and let’s see if we can make it 2 songs in a row!”

Hey … need any more proof that this is the band to watch (and hear … and see …) in 2009? Keep your eyes on their site and both our blogs for all the outtasite updates!

If you’re not on the FOREfront right now, there’s still time to repent and become a believer! Check out their vids on YouTube® and getcher new copy of “Run and Hide” NOW!!

See ya on the flip side!

Spencer John Hannabuss

Date and Place of Birth: 14 November 1979 b Dartford (moved to leafy Sidcup at age of 10 months)
Parents’ Names: Dennis and Denise
Eye Colour: Blue

Hair Colour: Brown
Height: 6 foot 4 / 195 cm

Favourite Artists: Beatles, Hollies, Zombies, Crowded House
Biggest Impact On Career: Playing Cavern
Most Thrilling Experience: Any time playing in front of a big, enthusiastic crowd.
Miscellaneous Likes: Sport, Food, Music, clothes
Miscellaneous Dislikes: People with big egos, selfishness.

I must have been about 10 or 11 when I first got into The Beatles. My first performance in front of an audience was when I was 11, when I played She’s Leaving Home on cello at the end of year talent show and I was always listening to my mum and dad’s old vinyl LPs and singles. Music was always an important aspect of family life and from a young age I can remember 60s music dominating my auntie’s family parties.

It wasn’t until I was 14 that I first picked up the guitar. I had a little Spanish guitar, and my dad, who used to be in bands in the late ’60s, taught me how to play all the chords. I mainly learnt to play by playing along to Beatles songs and writing my own songs – I wrote my first song about 2 months after picking up the guitar. More influences followed. My dad turned me on to The Byrds and The Beach Boys when I was 15 and at the same time Oasis and Crowded House were big in the UK, who I also got into. It was around this time that The Rembrandts released ‘I’ll Be There For You’ (The Friends Theme song) – I loved this song and knew straight away how I would like the band to sound (even though there wasn’t a band at the time!).

In 1998 I joined my first band. They were called ‘The Rockin’ Mojos’, but once I joined we changed the name of the band to ‘The Beatniks’. The advert that I saw in the local music store was for a bassist. At the time I had only ever picked up a six string guitar but luckily my dad still had his old bass Vox bass guitar stored away back at home. Before heading to the audition I watched the films ‘Back Beat’ (a film about The Beatles) and ‘Help’ and hoped that I had picked up enough to get by! Luckily enough, I did a reasonable enough job at the audition and made it into the band. The rhythm guitarist in the band was a couple of years older than me and was big on 60s beat as well. Through him my eyes were open to a whole new array of 60s bands – The Hollies, Dave Clark Five, Herman’s Hermits, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Searchers, the list was endless! I soaked up all these influences and couldn’t get enough of it. Here was a wealth of band that, on first listen, ALL SOUNDED LIKE THE BEATLES!!! This had a massive effect on my song writing as well and all I wanted to do was emulate these bands.

About The Band:

Now, if you’re thinkin’ “just another Beatle tribute band”, you’re WRONG!! This amazing foursome writes and performs its own material in the 1960’s style of “Mersey beat”.
They’ve had scores of raving newspaper, radio and internet reviews, play the Cavern (as a ‘residency’, like their forefathers in the British Invasion), festivals and (again like their famous forefathers) every gig, small or large, to bring the best of rock to the beat to audiences. They’ve performed in front as many as 35,000 people, have supported some of the UK’s best acts, been in a Beatles film (the DVD Rare and Unseen: The Beatles), worked with a few major producers, have an album out on their own independent record label (and, soon, a second!) and played (and won!) on “BBC TV! Upstaged”.
Most recently, they were signed by NOMA Music to provide music for television shows and movies!

Want to know MORE?? Wait until our NEXT edition, where the lads will share some of their favourite VIDS with ya!

See ya on the FLIP SIDE!!

Introducing … THE FORE!!

October 4, 2008 by theforeband

They’ve been called ‘the most exciting UK band since The British Invasion …’. Radio and press releases boast, ‘They’re so carefully studied in the sound and style of the Brit Invasion that it’s hard to believe that (their first album, Black & White) isn’t some long lost recording discovered bricked in to the back wall of the Cavern.’, ‘The twang and shake of Merseybeat is seldom heard through any kind of airwave, which is why The Fore as such a cracking band.”

So it is, as thousands of screaming fans can tell ya, with England’s hottest new band, The Fore. And, in this blog, you’re gonna meet the madcap lads who comprise this amazing ensemble! As it builds, you’ll hear the music, read the interviews, witness the vids, and everything that’s turned on fans from the UK to Europe — and now in America!

You’ll meet (from front to back in the pic to your left), the silent, studious Matt Hardy, whose lead guitar work is perfect. You’d be hard-pressed to tell his style from that of The Beatles’ George Harrison.

Simon (“Si”) Thompson lays down a backbeat that keeps the songs rockin’! When he does a “fill”, it’s unique and fits hand-in-glove with each number!

Luke Bentley was the sharp, witty rhythm guitarist that put out a 4/4 the likes of which hasn’t been heard since Chuck Berry! UPDATE: Luker has had to leave the band due to health/personal issues. That means THE BAND IS LOOKING FOR A NEW, LIVELY, EXPERIENCED RHYTHM GUITARIST! IF YOU’RE IN THE LONDON AREA AND DREAMED OF JOINING A POPULAR, MERSEYBEAT-BASED BAND, NOW’S YOUR CHANCE!! Just visit the band’s site or email me and I’ll hook you up with their managers for a possible audition!

But the leader of the band — the man in the Forefront of it all — is bassist/vocalist/songwriter Spencer Hannabuss. Watching him in action with the lads, ya can’t help feelin’ the energy — as one fan wrote:  It’s like the forefathers of the Invasion have found a new home in him!

But so it is with all of them!  Their fab, self-composed music, coupled with the best blend of harmony, melody, rhythm and backbeat to grace the stage since The Beatles, and tremendous on-and-offstage personalities, makes The Fore the band to watch over the next years!  Trust this Rock Relic … I’ve been around the scene for a long time … and have seen plenty of ‘em come and go.  And I can tell ya: THESE GUYS ARE GETTIN’ READY TO BLOW THE ROOF OFF THE ROCK WORLD!!

So stay tuned! Within the next 24, I’m gonna share gigs, histories, a vid and music by this fab foresome!  Believe me, you’ll wanna be here!  And, listen — print these out and save ‘em, ’cause you’ll wanna be part of rock history!!

SEE YA ON THE FLIP SIDE WITH MORE!!  B HERE!!
